I’m off to India soon and want to take my holga with me. I got given a load of slide film and wanted to try it out before I went. Above are the results from my trip to dartmoor with the lady and some bits and pieces in London.
I can’t remember where I first heard the Village Callers, but I bloody loved them. I couldn’t find there music anywhere so asked Mark Lamarr to play their version of ‘I don’t need no doctor’ on his God’s Jukebox show, luckily he did. Since then I realised they were on Spotify, a band all should listen to. Apologies for the low res newspaper clip, its the only picture I could find of the band.
I’ve always been a fan of J.Rocc but after seeing him at Brainfeeder London, I had to get some more of his mixtapes. As Jazzman records is another favourite of mine I thought it was a good idea to buy the J-ROCC vs J-MAN mix, and it was worth it. It’s banging. A clip and to purchase here.
I went to the first talk with Jost Hochuli, which was excellent. The exhibition was open too which is really good and worth the trip to see. The next talk is on the 17 march, looking forward to that. Here are the details…
Book design in St. Gallen talks:
Roland Früh – Hostettler & Typographic Discourse
As the editor of typographic journals Ralf Hostettler moderated discourse in typography and graphic design for almost four decades, always from St.Gallen, but with an international outlook. This talk will focus on how his editorial work influenced developments in typography and graphic design.
Richard Hollis – St. Gallen: Tradition & Innovation
Measuring the distance between books designed in St. Gallen and those which represent ‘Swiss typography’.
Robin Kinross – Hochuli as Editor, Writer, Publisher
Robin will discuss this part of Hochuli’s work – focusing on his VGS books and the annual booklets that he has made: the Typotron series and now the Ostschweiz series, both very much centred on St. Gallen in their subjects.

I’ve recently got into ‘them’, they do a great version of Bob Dylan’s – Baby blue. A bit about the band…
“Them were a Northern Irish band formed in Belfast in April 1964, most prominently known for the garage rock standard “Gloria” and launching singer Van Morrison’s musical career. The group was marketed in the United States as part of the British Invasion.”
Just been looking at some books in the studio and re-discovered the Hipgnosis book, this is a great book to have if you can get your hands on it. Above are some of the album’s I really want.
‘Hipgnosis was a British art design group that specialized in creating cover art for the albums of rock musicians and bands, most notably Pink Floyd, Wishbone Ash, UFO, 10CC, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, The Alan Parsons Project and Genesis. Hipgnosis consisted primarily of Storm Thorgerson, Aubrey Powell, and later, Peter Christopherson. The group issolved in 1983, though Thorgerson still works on album designs and Powell works in video most notably with the WHO.’
I bought this album the other day at a flea market in Hackney wick for £1. With one of my favourite Public enemy tracks – Don’t believe the hype. What a steal.
